Newly 86 Gurukula Junior Colleges in Telangana State

As part of the implementation of free compulsory education from KG to PG, the number of welfare gurukula educational institutions is increasing step by step. While there are already more than a thousand institutions, 86 new junior colleges are coming up.

The Telangana state government has given a green signal to set up these in the academic year 2022-23. Out of this 75 will be started under SC Gurukula Society, 7 under Tribal Gurukula Society and 4 under BC Gurukula Society. These will be organized in addition to the existing Gurukula schools. However, the government has advised the Gurukula societies to organize in different buildings even though they have the same premises. CS Someshkumar directed the secretaries of the respective societies to identify suitable buildings and report to the government. On July 1, he held a meeting with the secretaries of SC, ST and BC welfare departments and the secretaries of gurukula societies at Burgula Ramakrishna Rao Bhavan. He said that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has suggested that the issue of setting up new colleges should be looked at with utmost priority. Therefore, he said that steps should be taken to establish these soon. The CS reviewed the ongoing management of gurukula schools. He ordered to take appropriate steps to train the cooking staff.

Study circle in each district
CS said that there should be a study circle in every district of the state. He said that CM KCR has already given instructions for setting these up. The welfare departments were ordered to prepare a report on the existing study circles, where new ones should be established and other issues. BC Welfare Department Principal Secretary Burra Venkatesham, Panchayat Raj Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, SC Development Department Secretary Rahul Bojja, Minority Welfare Department Secretary Ahmed Nadeem, Tribal Welfare Department Secretary Christina Chongthu, SC and ST Gurukula Societies Secretary Ronald Rose, BC Gurukula Society Secretary Malliah were present in the meeting. Battu, Secretary of Minority Gurukula Society B. Shafiullah and others participated.

53 Gurukul Degree Colleges in the Telangana State

There are 53 Gurukul degree colleges in the state. Of these, 30 degree colleges have been sanctioned for the SC Gurukul Society and 22 degree colleges have been sanctioned for the ST Gurukul Society.

Gajwel is the only women’s degree college under the Telangana Jyotiba phule Telangana Backward Classes Welfare Gurus Educational Institutions Society (MJPTBCWREIS). Due to the limited number of seats in the college, the BC students who had advanced their guru education up to Inter could not venture into private. There is a huge demand for the establishment of Gurukul Degree Colleges from BC. The BC Welfare Department has twice sent proposals to the MJPTBCWREIS government seeking to set up a degree college in each district center as pressure mounts on the Gurukul Society. There has been no response to the third-time proposals to set up a single degree college, at least in the joint district center.

If immediate action is taken
If the government approves the establishment of new Gurukul degree colleges, they will be able to open in the 2022–23 academic year. Officials say the availability of buildings, the establishment of a college and the creation of infrastructure will be possible only if the government gives its approval 3 months before the new academic year. College management is possible only if there are proper arrangements rather than a school model. He says if the government takes immediate action, it will be possible to set up colleges basically by August.
