JN Tata Endowment Scholarship Programme 2011-12

Dorabji Tata Endowment Trust has issued notification for the award of J.N. Tata Endowment Loan Scholarships for the year 2011-12. Scholars / students pursuing higher education in all areas and fields of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships. From fresh graduates to mid career professionals and academics with work experience and below the age of 45 years can apply.

Total number of scholarships is 120. Formal eligibility is Graduation with a consistently good academic record. Final year students and those waiting for final year results also can apply. Short listed candidates will be called for personal interview at Mumbai during March – June 2011. Candidates will be interviewed by relevant subject experts.

Dorabji Tata Trust has been awarding these scholarships for the past 118 years. The main objective of the program is it to fulfill the aspirations of talented students by providing them world class education through its loan scholarship programs. The scholarships are awarded for higher studies in abroad in all kinds of disciplines and subjects. The amount of the scholarships ranges from Rs. 60000 to Rs. 400000. The selected scholars may also get a gift scholarship from the Jamsedji Tata Trust (Maximum amount of this scholarship is Rs. 3,80,000).

NBHM Scholarships for Ph.D. in Mathematics 2010-11

The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India inviting applications for the grant of scholarships for pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics for those joined in the year 2010-11. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in higher studies with fellowships from a reputable institute. Candidates must have motivation and aptitude for research in Mathematics. They should have consistent academic record from +2 level to the present degree. Following are other details:

Essential Eligibility: Applicants must have B.A./ B.Sc./ B.Tech. / B.E./ M.A./ M.Sc. degree Or they must be pursuing final year of the course. Those studied B.Sc. (Honors) and passed with second class marks also eligible to apply. First class marks in all stages of education is essential requirement. The students must have enrolled in Ph.D. Course of the any recognized institution.

Selected candidates will get scholarship amount of Rs. 12,000/- per month for the initial two years and and shall receive Rs 14,000/- per month for subsequent years. They shall also get a contingency grant of Rs. 15,000/- per year along with all permissible allowances. The scholarships durations is normally for a total period of four years an can be enhanced in exceptional cases.

Selection will be made through a written test consist of questions on topics normally covered in Master’s degree programmes in Mathematics. The test will be for two and half hours and involves questions with short answers. Old / Model Question papers are available on the NBHM website www.nbhm.dae.gov.in . The written test will be conducted on 22rd January 2011. Those short listed in Written exam will be called for interview. The candidates who like to join in Ph. D. programmes in the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai and the Harish-Chandra Research Institute (HRI), Allahabad are required to appear for this written test.
