CEED 2012 Notification by IIT Bombay

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT B) has issued notification for Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED – 2012) for admission into design courses for the academic year 2012-13. All the leading IITs and IISc Bangalore offer design programmes. The main objective of CEED Entrance Examination is to assess the candidate’s aptitude for design, drawing skills, logical reasoning, visual skills, creativity and communication skills. CEED is an all India level examination for admission into the following Post Graduate programmes in design:

1) Master of Design Programmes (M.Des.)

a) IISc Bangalore: M.Des. in Product Design and Engineering
b) IIT Bombay: M.Des. in the specializations of Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Animation, Interaction Design, Mobility and Vehicle Design.
c) IIT Kanpur: M.Des. in Industrial Design
d) IIT Delhi: M.Des. in Industrial Design
e) IIT Guwahati: M.Des. in Design

IITs and IISc consider GATE scores also for admission into these programmes. Following are some more programmes offered by these institutes through CEED:

1) Ph.D Programmes in Design (Offered at IISc Bangalore and IIT Bombay); Eligibility: Applicants must have Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design or equivalent. Candidates with Professional Diploma in Design (NID / CEPT or equivalent of 4 years duration after 10+2 also can apply. Candidates with B.F.A. (4 year professional programme offered after 10+2) OR G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with at least one year professional experience and Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications are also eligible to apply. There is no age limit for CEED. A candidate can appear any number of times.

Last date to apply online is 7th October 2011. Last date for the receipt of application print outs with required documents is 14th October 2011. Test will be conducted at Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai, and Roorkee. CEED 2012 results will be announced on 20th January 2012.

IIT Bombay Research Internship Awards 2011-12

IIT Bombay has announced IITB Research Internship Awards 2011-2012. The Internship Awards are designed to encourage students to pursue research and provide educational and professional research experience to them in the disciplines of Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Humanities and Management. The IITB Research Internship Awards are available for specific research projects being carried out in IIT Bombay under experienced guides. The complete details of departments and ongoing projects in various departments are displayed on the IIT B website. IIT Bombay follow rigorous selection procedure for the selection of candidates for these awards. The IITB reserves the number of interns to be selected based on the available of the projects. There were 50 project positions in 2010. The selected interns have to work full time for four to six months on the concerned project under the supervision of project guide. The selected candidates will get a fixed stipend of Rs 10000/- per month. IIT-B also provide accommodation subject to availability. Following are details of eligibility, selection method and application procedure:

Qualification and Eligibility: Applicants should be pursuing second year of M.Sc. or Third / Fourth of Bachelors Degree in the relevant branch / subject / discipline. They should be among the top 10 percent of candidates in all the previous years in their respective departments / college / course. Candidates should submit a certificate to this effect at the time of the interview. Candidates should not have any course work requirements in their college / parent institute during the period of internship. They need to provide a certificate to this effect at the time of interview.

The period of internship will also depends on the year in which the candidates are studying their course. This is a full time internship offer. Candidates should be pursuing full time courses only. Students / candidates pursuing other degree programmes can check their eligibility status with the concerned departments and proceed with the application procedure.

Application Procedure: Interested candidates can apply online only through IIT Bombay website at http://www.ircc.iitb.ac.in/fellowship/ . Application forms will be available from 15th September 2011. Applications for internship must be accompanied by a detailed statement of purpose in the prescribed format. Selection of the candidates will be based on preliminary screening of applications followed by relevant test/ interviews to be held at the department level. IITB also consider academic performance, work carried out by the student besides academic work, participation/ recognition in competitions such as Techfest, Olympiads, National Talent Search Exams, and also performance in the interview.
