Applications are invited by IIT Madras for Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSSE) – 2017 for admission into MA programmes in various disciplines of social sciences and humanities. Examination fee is Rs. 1100 for female / SC/ ST/ PwD candidates and Rs. 2200 for all other candidates.
Streams offered:
1) Integrated MA in Development Studies
2) Integrated MA in English Studies
Candidates should have passed in 10 + 2 of any stream and board with at least 60 percent marks.
Question Paper Pattern:
HSEE – 2017: Duration is 3 hours and has two parts.
Part – I consists of objective type multiple choice questions for
2 and a half hours duration (150 minutes). It is computer based test.
Part II: It involves essay writing for 30 minutes to be written on
answer sheet distributed to the candidates at the end of Part I.
Part I covers the following topics: (i) English and Comprehension
Skill; (ii) Analytical and Quantitative Ability; (iii) General Studies
covering the areas of Indian Economics (since Independence), Indian Society, Contemporary World Affairs (post – World
War II); and (iv) Environment and Ecology.
Part II requires the candidates to write an essay on general topic
involving description, or/and reflection or/and discussion.
