Test pattern and exam scheme of the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by CSIR- UGC has been changed from June 2011. Following are some useful tips and strategies for the NET appearing candidates. First of all, let us deal with the basic aptitude a candidate required to succeed in CSIR UGC new scheme of examination for JRF and Lectureship. In order to get CSIR JRF a positive aptitude with strong knowledge in the basics of subject and hard work are required. Candidate should be thorough in the subject right from 9th standard onwards since most of the competitive exams are based on basics that are taught from 8th standard onwards.
A student who plans his/her studies in a systematic way and follow the classroom out put doesn’t require special coaching. But the aspirant should be update with the subject and follow the present aspects of the modern trends in science. Basic knowledge in the subjects is needed, where the study of 10+2/intermediate books will count. For a regular M.Sc student a thorough preparation of 6months is sufficient to crack the CSIR-UGC NET exam. A CSIR JRF aspirant should start preparation from first year M.Sc onwards so that no hurry in the last hour preparation or chance for confusion.
Choice in the New CSIR JRF Exam:
New pattern CSIR Test Booklet will contain 145 MCQs with 20 questions from Part A, 50 from Part B and 75 from Part C. Candidates will be required to answer any 15 questions in Part A, any 35 in Part B and any 25 questions in Part C respectively. The main reason for giving maximum choice is to give chance to the students who come from varied disciplines. For eg Biology consists of Microbiology, Zoology, Biochemistry, Botany and other natural sciences. Every concerned discipline candidate can find easily minimum 10 question from his/her branch subject. There will be a negative marking of 1/4th or 25% will be deducted for each wrong answer.
Candidates have to follow the syllabus in the class room thoroughly. Even if the syllabus is not completed make sure that you know some of the concepts in each unit for successful attempt. Don’t limit yourself only to the books. Try to get additional information on the subject from other books and research articles. Try to get the latest information on the topic from the Internet as well. Candidate should be through with the syllabus prescribed by the respective university Candidates from Non CBSE must go through the CBSE books to obtain basic information especially in Biology. This is very important from preparation point of view for students who are in SSC mode and follow state board syllabus and curriculum.
