DBT – Bioinformatics Industrial Training Programme 2017-18

Department of Biotechnology has announced DBT – Bioinformatics Industrial Training Programme (BIITP) for the year 2017-18. DBT invites online applications from the bioinformatics students through the website www.bci.nic.in .

Bioinformatics students interested in training in biotech / bioinformatics companies may apply online. Selected candidates will get a stipend of Rs. 10000 per month. Selection will be through an interview.

Eligibility:

Candidates with BE / B.Tech / M.Sc / M.Tech / Advanced Post Graduate Diploma (at least one year) in Bioinformatics in the year 2016 or 2017 with minimum 55 percent marks may apply.

Online application form is available on www.bcil.nic.in . Filled in form along with relevant copies of certificates should be sent to Mr. Manoj Gupta, Manager, Biotech Consortium India Limited, 5th Floor, Anuvrat Bhawan, 210, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, New Delhi – 110002.

Careers in Medical Biochemistry and Nutrition

1. I am a student of medical biochemistry. I have to do a project. Please suggest me some project topics related to protein biochemistry?

You can take up protein isolation, cloning and purification kind of project in any academic institute or industry. The respective guide will provide you the details as per the feasibility and facilities available in the very institute. So you have to look for a project guide first then only you can plan for the rest. U can also try for good projects in Medical colleges.

2. I am doing B.Sc in Bioinformatics and I am very confused that what should I do after my graduation? Is Masters beneficial or not. And what scope does bioinformatics has further. Guide me about a course that could be helpful to me in future.

It’s always better to do B.Sc in a core subject, which increase the strength of a student in a particular area. As you have completed your graduation with Bioinformatics, it is better to continue with the same. As per as the future concerns, there are jobs available in the industry and R & D sectors for Bioinformaticians. But the scope is not much wide. The competition is to high in this field and the candidate should be a good programmer as well as understanding should be good in Biology. The other option for you is to shift to IT sector completely.

3. I have done M.Sc in Food & Nutrition and completed my internship. Shall I get a job with this qualification? What kind of opportunities and companies are there for me?

There are jobs in Food tech in so many companies but the scope is bit limited. You have to try in companies like Amul, Nestle and other food and beverage related industries. The other option for you is to change your track to nutrition and dietetics.
