TIFR-Visiting Summer Research Programme- VSRP 2011

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is inviting applications from eligible candidates for ‘Visiting Summer Research Programme’ (VSRP) 2011. The Prorgammes is intended to give exposure to research activities in the areas of Chemistry, Computer Science, Biology, Mathematics, and Physics. The VSRP programmes will be held at the Mumbai campus of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and also at National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, Pune. Selected candidates will be paid Rs. 7000 as stipend per month along with travel charges and hostel accommodation. TIFR is a premier research organization in the country

The VSRP will be conducted during May 16 to July 8, 2011. This is an excellent opportunity for the first year students of Post graduation, and pre final students of other courses as TIFR is highly reputed in carrying out research in all the fundamental sciences.
Eligibility Requirements:

1. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics : Applicants should be in their Pre-final year of the courses such as M.Sc. Applied Maths / Biosciences/ Chemistry/ Mathematics Astronomy/ Physics. OR B.E. / B.Tech OR Medicine / Engineering OR Exceptionally talented B.Sc. Maths students.

2. Computer and Systems Sciences : Should be pre-final year students of B.E. / B.Tech. / M.Sc. / M.C.A. / M.E. / M.Tech courses.

NBHM Scholarships for Ph.D. in Mathematics 2010-11

The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India inviting applications for the grant of scholarships for pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics for those joined in the year 2010-11. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in higher studies with fellowships from a reputable institute. Candidates must have motivation and aptitude for research in Mathematics. They should have consistent academic record from +2 level to the present degree. Following are other details:

Essential Eligibility: Applicants must have B.A./ B.Sc./ B.Tech. / B.E./ M.A./ M.Sc. degree Or they must be pursuing final year of the course. Those studied B.Sc. (Honors) and passed with second class marks also eligible to apply. First class marks in all stages of education is essential requirement. The students must have enrolled in Ph.D. Course of the any recognized institution.

Selected candidates will get scholarship amount of Rs. 12,000/- per month for the initial two years and and shall receive Rs 14,000/- per month for subsequent years. They shall also get a contingency grant of Rs. 15,000/- per year along with all permissible allowances. The scholarships durations is normally for a total period of four years an can be enhanced in exceptional cases.

Selection will be made through a written test consist of questions on topics normally covered in Master’s degree programmes in Mathematics. The test will be for two and half hours and involves questions with short answers. Old / Model Question papers are available on the NBHM website www.nbhm.dae.gov.in . The written test will be conducted on 22rd January 2011. Those short listed in Written exam will be called for interview. The candidates who like to join in Ph. D. programmes in the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai and the Harish-Chandra Research Institute (HRI), Allahabad are required to appear for this written test.
