B.Ed candidates also eligible for SGT Posts – NCTE Guidelines

National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has come out with an important decision allowing B.Ed qualified candidates for SGT (Secondary Grade Teachers) posts in Primary Schools across the country. Only D.Ed candidates are being allowed for SGT posts till the date.

Bridge Course:

NCTE has also issued gazette notification to this effect. But the B.Ed candidates have to undergo a six month bridge course in Elementary education recognised by NCTE. They have to complete the bridge course within two years after such an appointment as primary teacher.

Graduation with 50 percent marks and B.Ed:

NCTE has ammended the specific sections of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. According to the changes, graduation with at least 50 percent marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) is also considered as suitable qualification for SGT posts.

The notification read as follows:

(a) who has acquired the qualification of B.Ed from any NCTE recognised institution shall be considered for appointment as a teacher in classes I to V provided the person so appointed as a teacher shall mandatorily undergo a six month bridge course in elementary education recognised by NCTE, within two years of such appointment as primary teacher.
