There are 53 Gurukul degree colleges in the state. Of these, 30 degree colleges have been sanctioned for the SC Gurukul Society and 22 degree colleges have been sanctioned for the ST Gurukul Society.
Gajwel is the only women’s degree college under the Telangana Jyotiba phule Telangana Backward Classes Welfare Gurus Educational Institutions Society (MJPTBCWREIS). Due to the limited number of seats in the college, the BC students who had advanced their guru education up to Inter could not venture into private. There is a huge demand for the establishment of Gurukul Degree Colleges from BC. The BC Welfare Department has twice sent proposals to the MJPTBCWREIS government seeking to set up a degree college in each district center as pressure mounts on the Gurukul Society. There has been no response to the third-time proposals to set up a single degree college, at least in the joint district center.
If immediate action is taken
If the government approves the establishment of new Gurukul degree colleges, they will be able to open in the 2022–23 academic year. Officials say the availability of buildings, the establishment of a college and the creation of infrastructure will be possible only if the government gives its approval 3 months before the new academic year. College management is possible only if there are proper arrangements rather than a school model. He says if the government takes immediate action, it will be possible to set up colleges basically by August.
