Changes in JEE from 2017 – No Weightage to Intermediate Marks

JEE Changes The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India is mulling several changes in the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) from 2017. JEE is conducted for admission into Engineering and Architecture courses in IITs, IIITs, NITs and several other institutions funded by the central government.

The important change would be removal of weightage to the Intermediate / +2 marks. At present, 40 percent weightage is being accorded to the marks achieved by the students in Intermediate / +2 class.

The Ashok Mishra committee formed by the IIT Council has recommended to do away with the weightage process. The Intermediate / + 2 will be limited to qualifying examination.

Candidates should have at least 75 percent marks or should be in the top 20 percent students of the state concerned to be eligible for JEE from 2017. SC and ST students need 65 percent marks in Intermediate / +2.

There will be no other changes in the JEE examination except removing weightage to Intermediate / + 2 marks. The recommendations of the HRD committee are kept in public for suggestions and comments.
