KV Schools Admissions – Priorities and Preference for Various Categories

Kendriya Vidyalayas follow certain guidelines for granting admission under various categories. The basic aim of the KV system is to cater the educational needs of the children of the transferable central government employees. They will get top priority in admissions. KVs have a total of 5-6 categories to shortlist the applications for admission into various classes.

Service category will be decided based on the school chosen for the student. Service category will be different for Civil / defense / IHL and project sector schools / KVs.

Priorities for Civil / Defence Sector Schools:

Category I : Children of transferable and non-transferable central government employees and children of ex-servicemen will be given top priority. This also includes wards of foreign national officials who are on deputation or transfer to India.

Category II : Children of transferable and non-transferable employees of Autonomous Bodies / PSUs/ IHL (Institute of Higher Learning of Govt. of India)

Category III : Children of transferable and non-transferable employees of State Government concerned.

Category IV : Children of transferable and non-transferable employees of Autonomous Bodies/ PSUs / IHL of State Government.

Category V : Children from any other category (including children of Foreign Nationals).

The important point to be noted here is that preference will be given based on the number of transfers of the parents in the last 7 years.

Priorities for KVs under PSUs / IHLs:

Category I: Children and grandchildren of employees of the Project Sector / IHLs which are sponsors of KV. Children of Project employees and Post Graduate students those working on long term research projects etc. Preference will be given to children of serving employees and children of retired employees will be considered later.

Category II : Wards of transferable and non – transferable central government employees and children of ex-servicemen.

Category III : Children of transferable and non-transferable employees of Autonomous Bodies / PSUs / IHLs of Govt of India.

Category IV : Children of transferable and non-transferable employees of the State Governments.

Category V: Children of transferable and non-transferable employees of Autonomous Bodies/ PSUs / Institutes of Higher Learning of state government.
Category VI : Children from any other category.
