Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools, popularly known as KVs are gaining popularity in the recent days. Corporatisation of the primary and high school education has made the school education costly affair and people are slowly turning towards alternatives for quality affordable education. Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools (KVS) are highly affordable and co-curricular oriented schools in India. Moreover, they are managed by Central Government of India. Hundreds of KV schools are available across the country. They are unique in admissions and other activities. These schools follow CBSE syllabus and books are published by NCERT.

Age Requirements:

KV Schools offer classes 1 to 12. The schools across the country follow uniform syllabus and teaching and examination pattern. Hindi and English are the medium of instruction in KV Schools. These schools give importance to sports and other co-curricular activities along with academic.

Age criteria of KVs is same for all Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools. According to the KVS guidelines, a child must be 5 years old as on 31st March in the academic year in which admission is sought for Class I. It should be noted that a child born on 1st April also be considered for admission.

Admission Procedure:

KV Schools follow unique and uniform admission procedure across the country. Online applications have to be submitted as per the schedule for Class 1 admissions. Single Girl Child Admissions:

Kendriya Vidyalayas give priority for single girl children in admissions process. The parents need to provide certificate from registered medical practitioner at the time of application submission / admission. KVS follow this to encourage small family norm. See more details here:

KV Admissions:

KVS has announced admission notification for the academic year 2019-20. The admissions are open for class 1 in all KVS schools across the country. IRCTC Essay Writing Competition for School Children 2014

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) isconducting essay writing competition for school going students. Thestudents studying 1st class to 12th class can participate in the essaywriting competition. The students have to write an essay on any of thefollowing topics in the specific word limited as mentioned below for each age category.
A) Billions of Tourists for Trillions of wealth
B) Swachh Bharat (Sanitation)

Age and Class Groups:
1) Group I – Students of class 11 to 12 (essay should be in maximum 1000 words)
2) Group II – Students of class 8 to 10 (essay should be in maximum 400 words)
3) Group III – Students of class 5 to 7 (essay should be in maximum 300 words)
4) Group IV – Students of class 1 to 4 (essay should be in maximum 150 words)

The essay can be written in English, Hindi or any Indian regionallanguage recognised by the Constitution. The shortlisting will be donecollectively and a special award will be given for entries in regionallanguage if the there are more than 1000 entries in any one regionallanguage or in a group of regional languages.

Prizes: Two first prizes for each group is given by IRCTC in the formof tour packages. The winners will get IRCTC Vaishno Devi Package for4 persons of a family. There may be some other prizes as well.

The essays can be submitted through email toessaycompetition@irctc.com. Last date for the receipt of essays is 31December 2014.
