Recent Trends in Physics Education – A Seminar Report

A National seminar on “Recent Trends on Physics Education” was organized by Varsity Education Management Ltd (VEML) and Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) recently at AC Conference Hall, Sri Chaitanya IAS Academy, Madhapur, Hyderabad, A.P. Local organizing committee met at the same venue and discussed about the arrangements to be made on the next day. Registration for the seminar was started at 9.30 hrs and about 150 lecturer and teachers from Hyderabad city, districts around, professional and government recognized UG colleges have registered. Each delegate is given a kit consisting of writing pad and pen at the registration counter.

The seminar was organized in 4 sessions, and the first was Inaugural session at 10.20 hrs. Secretary of local organizing committee, Dr. Mannam Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive of VEML, has invited the dignitaries on to the dias. Dr. B.S. Rao, Chairman Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions chaired the session.

Prof. R.M. Dhankar Chief co-ordinator of olympiads of IAPT was the chief guest, Prof. M.L.Ogalapurkar Co-ordinator of olympiads exam was the guest of Honour. Mr Manoj Panday, Sri Chaitanya Academy, New Delhi was a resource person. Mr K. Ravindra Kumar, Principal Sri Chaitanya IIT Academy, Local convener was another resource person. The session was started by lighting the lamp (Jyothi Prajwalan). Chairman of the session in his opening remarks expressed that physics is supposed to be a difficult subject which is not true. Prof R.M. Dhankar gave keynote address and explained about the ethics in physics teaching. Prof. M.L. Ogalapurkar explained about the olympiads and role of IAPT . Mr. Manoj Pandey and K. Ravindra Kumar also spoke on the occasion.

Later the dignitaries were felicitated by Dr. B.S. Rao, on behalf of the host Istitutions and Prof. R.M. Dhankar felicitated Dr B.S. Rao, on behalf of IAPT. After a tea break, the first academic session was started at 11.50 hrs. Mr. K. Ravindra Kumar presided this session. Prof. Ogalapurkar gave presentation about Art of Estimation. Mr. Manoj Pandey gave a presentation about Newton’s shell theorms. This session was closed at 13.20 hrs for Lunch.

After lunch break, second academic session was held from 14.20 to 16.20 hrs. Mr. V. Surendra Babu acted as president for the session. Prof. S.C. Samantha, General Secretary IAPT gave a power point presentation on ‘Experiments in Physics’ . Mr. K. Ravindra Kumar gave another power point presentation on ‘Physics of Running’. Participants and delegates were encouraged for open discussions of the academic sessions.

After a tea break, the concluding session was started at 16.40 hrs. Mr.M. Umashankar was the president for the concluding session. Prof. S C Samantha was the guest of honour. Prof. Samantha explained about the role of IAPT in various activities. The participation by the delegates was invited and participation certificates were presented. The seminar was concluded by vote of thanks. The seminar was very successful, by meeting all its requirements, with a positive note.

GATE 2012 Results, Score Cards Download, ORS Sheets and Re-evaluation

IIT Delhi will announce GATE 2012 results on 15th March 2012 at 10 AM. The GATE 2012 results will be available on the GATE websites of IITs and IISc. GATE 2012 score is valid for two years from the date of announcement of the GATE 2012 results. Results may also available on the websites like schools9.com, indiaresults.com, madeeasy.com and IIT Delhi website at http://gate.iitd.ac.in/GATE/index.php . Congratulations for all the successful candidates. You need not worry if you did not qualify in GATE 2012. There are number of other options to pursue M.Tech. Various reputed institutions are offering M.Tech. without GATE score. GATE 2012 results for Papers AE, AG, MN, BT, CE, CH, CS, ME, PH, CY, EC, EE, IN, MA, MT, XE and XL are available on the above mentioned websites. IIT Madras and IIIT Hyderabad are the best institutions which also admit students without GATE scores.

GATE 2012 results are also made available on payment basis to interested organizations such as educational institutions, R and D laboratories, industries, etc. in India and abroad. These details can be obtained from Chairman, GATE, IIT Delhi. GATE qualified candidates can join in any recognised institute for M.Tech. course and also eligible to get scholarship from MHRD, Govt. of India. There is no provision for re-evaluation/ re-totalling of marks / scores for GATE. The GATE committee has provided Optical Response Sheets (ORS) this year for a limited period. GATE websites have displayed ORS sheets frojm 1st March to 5th March 2012.

GATE 2012 Score Cards: The IIT GATE websites mentioned above will provide GATE Score Cards at an appropriate time. Candidates can download GATE Score Cards from the websites. IITs do not issue issue aditional GATE scorecards. The GATE 2012 Committee has the final authority to decide the qualifying score and marks for all GATE papers.
