University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced new guidelines for Ph.D admissions in the state and central universities along with other recognized educational and research institutions. The new guidelines emphasize on the merit in university entrance exams along with UGC NET and CSIR NET qualifications. The new guidelines will come into force from the academic year 2017-18.
According to the new guidelines, all the candidates, including those qualified in UGC JRF or CSIR – JRF have to take the entrance examinations for Ph.D admissions. The UGC and CSIR exams will be considered for fellowship only.
The aspiring candidates need to secure at least 50 percent marks in university entrance examinations. The entrance will be conducted in the relevant subject and research methodology. 50 percent weightage will be given to questions on research methodology.
Candidates those qualified in entrance exam only will be called for the personal interviews irrespective of their credentials in UGC JRF / CSIR JRF and other equivalent qualifications. The new guidelines will impact the Ph.D admissions in universities.
