UGC has also appointed experts committee to look into the changes to be brought in the prestigious eligibility examination. NET is conducted for granting Junior Research Fellowships and Letureships.

At present, UGC – NET is being conducted in three papers for a total of 350 marks. The latest proposal is to introduce Prelims and Main Examinations as like in Civil Services examinations of UPSC.

It is also opined that there should be negative marking system in NET. The exam may be structured to test the teaching and research aptitude of the candidates. It is also suggested to decrease the gap between PG and NET syllabus.
