UGC Post Graduate Merit Scholarships 2010-12 for University Rank Holders

University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued notification for the grant of Post-Graduate Merit Scholarships for the academic year 2010-12. These scholarships are for the candidates who secured University ranks at the Under Graduation / Degree level in disciplines such as Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Social Sciences, Commerce and Languages. University rank holders in non- professional courses only eligible for these scholarships / fellowships. The selection of candidates will be purely based on merit only. The selected candidates can pursue their Post-Graduate programme in any area / specialization mentioned in the above disciplines. They can pursue courses in any recognised institution. The notification was issued in Employment News dated 12-18 March 2011. Following are other details:

Eligibility for UGC PG Merit Scholarships 2011 for the academic year 2011-12: Applicants must be First and Second Rank holders at the university level in under-graduate level in the specified disciplines. Candidates have to submit the proof of their merit. The scheme is applicable for students who have taken admission in regular and full-time Master’s Degree course only. They must have joined in any recognized university, deemed / private university, autonomous college or a post graduate college. Age must be below 30 years at the time of admission into PG course. Distance education candidates are not eligible.

Duration of the PG Merit Scholarship is 2 years. Total number of scholarships under the scheme are 3000. Selected awardees will be paid a Scholarship of Rs. 2000/- per month for 10 months in a year. Thus the entire scholarship will be for a total 20 months.

Application Procedure: Interested candidates can download application forms from www.ugc.ac.in. Filled in forms may be submitted to ‘Deputy Secretary (SR-III), University Grants Commission, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, New Delhi-110002’ within 30 days from the date of publication of this advertisement in the Employment News / Rojgar Samachar. CSIR-UGC NET June 2011 Notification, New Pattern and Scheme of Exam and Success Tips

Council of Scientific and Industrial Reseach (CSIR) has released notification for Joint CSIR- UGC NET to be conducted on 19th June 2011. Popular as CSIR NET (National Eligibility Test), this is very prestigious exam of CSIR. The selected candidates will be awarded Junior Research Fellowships (JRFs) and Lecturerships (LS). The CSIR – UGC NET is very useful for Science students as the fellowship offered under JRF and SRF is very attractive. Apart from fellowship, the JRF qualification will offer you research opportunities in prestigious scientific research organisations of the country. Important feature of of CSIR exam from this year is the changes in pattern of the exam and scheme of the question papers. Following are details of CSIR UGC NET June 2011 Examination:

The CSIR JRF examination is conducted in the following five disciplines / streams:
1. Chemical Sciences
2. Life Sciences
3. Mathematical Sciences
4. Physical Sciences
5. Earth Sciences

Eligibility: Applicants should have M.Sc. in the relevant subject with minimum 55 percent for General and OBC candidates and 50 percent for others. Those appearing for final year exams also can apply. Applicants age should be between 18-28 years as on 1-1-2011. Relaxation of 5 years apply for SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD/ Women candidates. Age limit is only for JRF and there is no upper age limitation for Lecturership.

Exam Scheme and Pattern: CSIR UGC NET exam pattern has been changed from this year. There will be a single Multiple Choice Question paper with 145 questions for a total of 200 marks. There will be 3 parts in the question paper. Duration of the paper is 3 hours. Following are these details:

1. Part A: There will be 20 Multiple Choice questions. Candidates ahave to answer any 15 questions. Total marks for this part are 30. Questions will be from the topics of General Science, Quantitative Reasoning and Analysis and Research Aptitude.

2. Part B: There will be 50 questions for 70 marks out of which candidates have to attempt any 35 questions. Multiple Choice questions (MCQs) will be from the subject chosen by the candidate.

3. Part C: There will be 75 questions in this part for 100 marks. Candidats have to attempt any 25 questions. Questions will test the subject knowledge of the candidates.

Application procedure: Candidates can apply online or offline . Offline applications are available with selected branches of Indian Bank across the country and OBC banks in Jammu and Kashmir.
