IICB Jadavpur Walk Ins for Ph.D in Sciences 2012

Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Jadavpur, Kolkata has announced notification for Ph.D. Admissions for the year 2012-13. IICB is functioning under the aegis of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Candidates have to apply online only through IICB website at www.career.iicb.res.in . The Ph.D. Programme is offered in the areas of Biological, Chemical and inter-disciplinary research. Following are details of seats, eligibility and application procedure:

Number of seats are 100. Eligibility: Applicants should have NET (CSIR / UGC) qualification OR DBT / DST / ICMR- JRF Fellowship. Selected candidates will get monthly stipend of Rs.14, 000 – Rs.16000. Age should be below 28 years. Areas of research are Molecular and Human Genetics, Infectious diseases and immunology, cell biology and physiology, drug development and diagnostics and biotechnology, structural biology and bioinformatics and chemistry.

IICB will conduct a walk in interview during March, June, September and December of every year. Candidates can follow the IICB website for the latest schedule of walk in interviews of Ph.D. admissions. There will be 25 seats in each session. CET 2012 for Ph.D. in UP Universities – Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University

Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad (Uttar Pradesh) has announced Common Eligibility Test (CET) 2012 notification for admission to Ph.D. Programmes in universities located in Uttar Pradesh. This is a common entrance examination for all the state universities offering Doctoral programmes for the academic year 2012-13. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University was entrusted to conduct the CET 2012 for Ph.D. on 29th April 2012 at Agra, Allahabad, Bareilly, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, Varanasi and Noida. Admission to Ph.D. programme will be made by respective state universities on the basis of Eligibility Certificate to be issued to successful candidates of CET 2012. Following are details of eligibility, nature and scheme of the examination, selection and application procedure:

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants should have Masters degree in relevant subjects as prescribed in the notification available on the university website at http://www.rmlau.ac.in/news/0420020118news.pdf . They should have minimum 55 percent marks. There will be 5 percent relaxation for SC, ST and PH candidates. The candidates who are appearing for Final year or Final semester examinations are also eligible to apply. The Eligibility test results of final year / semester candidates will be declared provisionally and will be confirmed after submitting the proof of qualification. The rules of UGC are applicable with regard to NET qualified candidates. Examination Fee is Rs. 800 for General and OBC candidates and Rs. 400 for SC and ST candidates. Syllabus of the ‘Common Eligibility Test’ (CET 2012) will be as that prescribed for UGC, CSIR, ICAR- NET – JRF Examinations. This syllabus for various subjects is available on the UGC, CSIR and ICAR websites.

Application Procedure: Interested candidates can apply in the prescribed form from 25th February 2012. The applications can be obtained from scheduled counter of the main branch of State Bank of India and Head Post Office of the examination cities mentioned above. CET 2012 Eligibility certificate with score will be valid for next two years from the date of issue.

Scheme of the Test: There will be two papers in the CET 2012 (Common Eligibility Test). The questions in both papers will be in Multiple Choice Type Questions (MCQs). Following is the description of two papers:
1) Paper-I: This paper consists of 2 hours duration and will contain 100 MCQs based on research aptitude and general awareness. Total marked for this paper is 100 marks. Exam Time: 8 – 10 AM.
2) Paper-II: Duration of this paper is 3 hours and will contain 200 MCQs based on Subject knowledge. Total marks are 200. There is no negative marking for any paper. Exam Time: 12-3 PM.

To qualify in the CET 2012, candidates should secure minimum 40 percent marks in each Paper and a minimum of 50 percent marks in aggregate. There will be a 5 percent relaxation in minimum marks for SC and ST candidates. The Examinations will be held in 12 cities as mentioned above in the beginning of the post. The admit cards / hall tickets for the CET 2012 will be sent by Post and shall also be available for download on university website www.rmlau.ac.in.
