INSPIRE Scholarships for Higher Education – SHE 2012-13

Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India has announced INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) for the year 2012-13. The number of scholarships are 10000. Selected candidates will get Rs. 80000 per year for studying Bachelor and Masters level education in Natural and Basic Sciences.

Eligibility: Applicants should be in top 1 percent students in 12th standard / Intermediate in the respective board examinations and should be pursuing Natural and Basic Sciences at B.Sc or Integrated M.Sc levels. Candidates who have secured top 10000 ranks in IIT JEE and top 10000 ranks in AIEEE or in AIPMT are also eligible to apply. They should be studyin UG and PG in Natural or Basic Sciences. Candidates who have admitted in IISER, NISER, DAE – CBS and those qualified in KVPY, NTSE, JBNSTS and achieved Olympiad medals are also eligible. They should have registered for B.Sc or M.Sc in a recognised institute or university.

Duration of the SHE scholarship is 5 years. The scholarship will start from the first year of B.Sc. / B.Sc (Honors) / Integrated M.Sc. Candidates should have completed Intermediate in 2012 only. Candidates can apply online or offline. Printed applications along with all relevant enclosures should be sent to Director, National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies, Dr. KS Krishnan Marg, New Delhi – 12. Last date for the receipt of completed applications is 20th October 2012.

INSPIRE Scholarships Intermediate – Class 12 Cut Off Marks

Following are Intermediate / Class 12 Board cut offs for INSPIRE Fellowships for the years 2008, 2009 and 2010. Cut off marks for CBSE, ICSE and State Boards have been given in the table. Students applying for INSPIRE fellowships 2012 can use this data to get basic understanding of the percentage of cut off marks required to get this prestigious INSPIRE scholarships for higher education (SHE).

The 12th Class / Intermediate cut off marks for various state have been increasing every year due to growing competition for these scholarships. If you take the example of Andhra Pradesh, cut offs have gone up to 95.2 percent in 2010 from 82.3 and 81.2 in 2009 and 2008 respectively. Cut offs for Kerala, Madhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Karnataka Boards also going up year on year. For CBSE and ICSE Boards 12th class cut offs are around 91 – 93 percent.
