The Medical Council of India has decided to increase the number of seats in MBBS, BDS and PG medical courses across the country from the academic year 2019-20. 7835 more MBBS seats and 4058 PG seats will be created in the coming years.
Out of these, Andhra Pradesh will get 410 seats and Telangana will get 279 seats in PG medical courses. MCI has also announced several key decisions pertaining to medical education in India. These are as follows.
1) The ratio of faculty and student in PG courses should be 1:3.
2) Managements can apply for new campuses by 7th July 2018.
3) Colleges can apply for increase of PG seats by 7th April 2018.
4) Every college should try for increase of seats in clinical / non clinical courses.
5) Deadline for applications for new MBBS seats (7835 seats) is 15th March 2018.
6) Each college can apply for a maximum of 250 more medical seats (MBBS).
7) Government / Autonomous colleges can increase PG seats irrespective of MBBS education.
8) Municipal Hospitals also can start PG / UG education and apply for more seats.
9) Relaxation is given to apply for PG seats even if the colleges have not completed five years education in MBBS / BDS level.
