Kendriya Vidyalayas – KV Schools Admission Procedure

Kendriya vidyalayas, much popular as KVs are known for affordable and quality education. The schools are run and managed by the department of school education, ministry of human resources development of government of India. Following is the admission procedure of Kendriya Vidyalayas.

KVs follow unique admission process across the country. The main concern of KVs is providing school education to transferable and non transferable central government employees and children of defence personnel.

The admission process of KVs starts in February – March every year. The age of the child should be 5 years at the time of the admission.

The KVs laid down detailed priority list of the children. Children of defence personnel get top priority in admissions. There are provisions for Central and state government employees children and single girl child. General applications will be given last priority. In the recent times, KVs are also giving good number of admissions to general category students.

I heard about your esteemed school and kind of education you provide, hence I would like to admit my daughter in your school Tambram for 4th standard from 2017-18.     I have a son and daughter. My husband works in a Private Company (Timesgroup). We are in OBC category. Can we get a seat to 1st standard for my son?

    • KVs follow reservations in admissions. You can try for the nearest KV School for your child. There is no special preference for private service candidates. Transferable central and state government employees children will get priority.

    I am Ex Army person retired in 2015. Last Year (2016) due to my final clearance procedures, I missed out admitting my child to 1st std, in KV, Mysore. This year (2017) I want to admit her to 2nd std. Is it possible to get seat? from when they will issue admission forms for 2017 academs

  8. Hi.. I’m Selva, working in Private sector. I’m staying near Avadi HVF(Military), Chennai, Tamil Nadu. In Avadi there are two KVs available one is KV HVF which is 3kms from my home & another is KV OCF which is 5kms from my home. Since, I’m working in Private company, Is it possible to get an admission in above mentioned KVs for my son? His DOB is 01/01/2014, Looking for KG.. Kindly advice me.

    • Hi Selva,
      Private employees will be considered under general category and will get last priority in KV admissions, as per the KVS norms. But the chances always will depend on the availability of seats and nothing wrong in checking with KVs you have mentioned. Also not sure of KVs offering prep sections.

    We are presently living in Vellore District and moving to Chennai the next year. So, we are seeking admission to our daughter in KV for 6th std. She is the only daughter / child for us. So, what is the procedure for admission under single child quota and MP quota in KVs. Kindly guide us.
