JNU New Delhi Admissions for UG, PG, M.Phil. Ph.D. Courses

Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi issued Admission Notification for the year 2012-13. JNU (www.jnuonline.in) is highly reputed university in the country with best faculty and infrastructure. JNU offers UG, PG, M.Phil and Ph.D. Courses in various disciplines an Subjects. There are four categories of admission for JNU. All these are described below along with details of programs and application process. JNU has announced admission notification for the year 2012-13. These details are available at the end of the post. JNU also sell Previous question papers of the entrance examinations. Details may also available on http://www.jnuonline.in/.

Category – A Admissions: JNU shall hold entrance exams for these courses:

1. School of International Studies:

A) M.Phil /Ph.D.: The School offer M.Phil and Ph.D. in these Centers – International Organisation, Diplomacy and Disarmament, International Politics, International Legal Studies; International Trade and Development; Political Geography; Chinese, Japanese and Korean Studies; South Asian, Central Asian, Southeast Asian and Southwest Pacific Studies; United States and Latin American Studies; European Studies; West Asian, North African and Sub- Saharan African Studies; Canadian, and Russian and Central asian studies.

B) M.A : Politics (with specialization in International Relations)
C) M.A.: Economics (with specialization in World Economy)

2. School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies:

A) M.Phil. / Ph.D.: German, Arabic, Russian, French, Persian, Urdu, Hindi, Chinese, Hindi Translation, Tamil, English, Linguistics, Japanese and Spanish.
B) M.Phil. in Portuguese
C) M.A: Chinese, English, Arabic, German, hindi, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Linguistics, Persian, Spanish and Urdu.
D) B.A. (Hons.): Chinese, French, Arabic, Japanese, German, Korean, Russian, Persian, and Spanish

3. School of Social Sciences:

A) M.Phil./ Ph.D. Programmes offered by these centers: Historical Studies; Political Studies; Economic Studies and Planning ; Social Medicine and Community Health; Social Systems (Sociology); Educational Studies (Psychology, Sociology, Economics and History of Education); Regional Development (Geography, Economics and Population Studies); Philosophy and Studies in Science Policy.

B) M.Phil./Ph.D. (Master of Public health)
C) M.A.: Economics, History, Political Science, Geography and Sociology

4. School of Life Sciences:

A) M.Phil/Ph.D.: Molecular Biology, plant biotechnology, genetics, Genetic engineering, cell biology, immunology, Developmental biology, microbiology, radiation and cancer biology, neurobiology, bio-physics and structural biology.
B) M.Sc. in life sciences

5. School of Environmental Sciences:

A) M.Phil /Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences
B) M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences

6. School of Computer and Systems Sciences:

A). M.Phil./Ph.D. and M.Tech./ Ph.D.: Computers and related sciences
B) M.C.A.:

7. School of Physical Sciences:

A) Pre-Ph.D. / Ph.D. in Physical Sciences/ Pre-Ph.D./ Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences
B) M.Sc. in Physics

8. School of Arts and Aesthetics:
A) M.Phil./Ph.D.: Visual Studies, Theatre and Performance Studies and Cinema Studies.
B) M.A. : Arts and Aesthetics

9. School of Information Technology:

A) Pre-Ph.D/ Ph.D in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics
B) M.Tech. in computational and systems biology

10. School of Biotechnology: A) Pre-Ph.D./ Ph.D. in all areas of biotechnology

11. Centre for Sanskrit Studies: A) M.Phil./Ph.D. in Sanskrit B) M.A. in Sanskrit

12. Centre for Molecular Medicine:

A) Pre-Ph.D/ Ph.D

13. Centre for the Study of Law and Governance: M.Phil./Ph.D.

Category B- Direct Admission to Ph.D. Programme:

JNU admits some students directly to Ph.D. programme on the basis of their performance in interview. There will be no entrance exam for this category admissions.

Category-C: JNU offer direct admissio to JRF holders into M.Phil and Ph.D. Programmes in all subjects of the School of Sciences.

Category-D : JNU hold separate entrance exam for Part Time admissons

Interested candidates can obtain application form through post / by hand from the office of JNU.       You can apply for M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Educational Studies. Eligibility for these courses is Master’s degree in the subject concerned with minimum 50 percent marks or Master’s degree in allied subjects or Humanities with minimum 55 percent marks or Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with minimum 60 percent marks. Admission will be through Entrance Test and Interview. Direct admission will be there for JRF holders in the discipline of Adult Education. All the best!

      You have already finished your post graduation in professional course (MBA HR and Finance). And also completed medical graduation. It is better if you gain some work experience before you take any decision on further education. You have already spent much time and energies on studies. Try to find a suitable job based on your present qualification. Further education in other/ non- professional disciplines may not help much to your career. All the best!

    • Hi Surendra,
      You should have studied Political Science as a main subject at Graduation level and passed with minimum 45 percent marks. There will be an entrance examination as part of the admission process. This will be in objective multiple choice type questions.

      You need to get application form and prospectus by post through sending a request along with requisite DD for the application fee mentioned in the notification. Details of examination / entrance test will be given in the prospectus. You can download the prospectus from JNU website also.

  5. Sir, I have completed my M.A and wish to apply for direct admission to PHd in Women studies.Kindly let me know the admission procedure and whether synopsis of 1000 words as mentioned ( am confused) is to be attached with the application form.

      You need to check with the concerned department before proceeding with application process. Admission will be through Written exam / Viva- voce OR both of these. Applications will be accepted based on the availability of seats. contact at director_admissions@mail.jnu.ac.in for more details. 21st March is the last date for Monsoon semester admissions.

      Yes, you can apply. Candidates with PG in any allied discipline with minimum 55 percent marks can apply for M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Sociology at JNU, New Delhi. You need to apply and get a good rank in the entrance exam and have to get through the interview process if any.

    but in the form these subject are not available only forigen language are available…..sir pls help me…

      Political Science and Geography are not available at B.A. (Hons) level at JNU, New Delhi. Only foreign languages are offered in B.A. Hons. You can pursue PG in Political Science, Geography etc.

    i want to fill jnu entrance test for admission to phd in biotech (not direct admission). I couldnt find any link to fill the form online. also very cofused about the procedure to get it by post.. plz help.
