Notification for INSPIRE fellowships for 2012 will be announced by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. INSPIRE is meant for Innovation in Scientific Pursuit for Inspired Research. This is a prestigious fellowship program initiated by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. These fellowships will be awarded for top / first rank holders in Post Graduation and those who are very much interested in pursuing Doctoral Program (Ph.D.) with fellowship in Science and Technology. The basic purpose of the fellowship scheme is to encourage young students to go for research in science education. Fellowship amount under INSPIRE scheme is equivalent to NET qualified candidates.
INSPIRE fellowships are offered in the disciplines of 1. Life Sciences 2. Chemical Sciences 3. Physical Sciences 4. Engineering Sciences 5. Earth and Atmospheric Sciences 6. Mathematics and Statistics 7. Medical Sciences 8. Pharmaceutical Sciences 9. Veterinary Sciences and 10. Agricultural Sciences
Eligibility: Applicants should have secured first rank in the Post Graduate Degree in any of the Basic and Natural Sciences. Candidates with degree in Engineering Sciences / Pharmaceutical Sciences / Agricultural Sciences / Medical Sciences / Veterinary Sciences are also eligible. Selection will be based on merit in the qualifying examination. Selected candidates will be awarded research grants for five years to pursue research leading to Ph.D. Degree in any reputed institute. Applicants must have completed their qualifying examination after 2008. There are several other Government Scholarships available for those interested in science research.
Application Procedure for INSPIRE: Interested candidates can obtain application format on DST website www.inspire-dst.gov.in. Address to send filled in applications: Head, INSPIRE Program, Department of Science & Technology, Technology Bhavan, New Mehrauli Road, New Delhi – 110 016. Candidates need higher cut offs in class 12 for UG scholarships.
Apart from these, INSPIRE Awards and Internships also offered to the students from Tenth class to Graduates and Post Graduates. Internship camps will be conducted for tenth passed candidates across the country and will be paid Rs. 5000 as an award. About 10000 students of Bachelors Degree and PG courses also will receive Scholarships of Rs. 80000 per year. They must be between 17-22 years of age. Another innovative scheme of of the DST is INSPIRE Faculty Awards Scheme.
Last date for receipt of completed applications along with required documents for all types of INSPIRE awards, fellowships and scholarships: March 2012 (Tentative). Details of application procedure, previous papers if any and selection procedure can be obtained from www.inspire-dst.gov.in .

I, Jui Ray , have done M.Sc. in Dairy Economics with Ist rank, from NDRI, Karnal, Haryana in july,2008. This year, September,2011 I have joined in Ph. D. in Agril. Economics at BCKV, Mohanpur, West Bengal.I joined my Govt.service in the year 2007 and I availed study leave on without pay basis. So Sir, please let me know,under the above situation, whether i am eligible to avail the fellowship or not?
Sir, please tell me the exact eligibility criteria to avail the fellowship.Has the notification already came out as i have already seen in the bengali newspaper ” ANANDABAZAR PATRIKA” on 29th January, 2012 about 4th notification of Inspire Fellowship, 2012-13. Is the notification is correct, but we are not able to get the same in the website of dst.

I guess you are right.. Although I haven’t seen this in News Paper but on 30th January 2012 I got this 4th notification.
But there is no information available in the DST-INSPIRE website. Pretty strange. We would request to the admin to put some light on it.

I completed my msc degree in Sep -2010 with first rank, and i could not able to join phd in same year because during that time there was no openings for phd, so i joined for phd during 2011. We got one advertisement about this inspire fellowshiph 2012-13, in vijaya karnataka news paper from karnataka state, there they clearly mentioned about eligibility criteria, that who got eligibity for joining phd during jan 2011 to dec 2011, those only can apply for this inspire, is this true or what please let me know as early as possible because i have to search for some other option for my phd fellowship.
There may be different eligibility and procedures for Ph.D. fellowships. You can see DST- INSPIRE website for more details.

i have topped in M.Sc BIOTECHNOLOGY from Presidency College(erstwhile),affiliated under University of Calcutta in June,2011.but,now Presidency College has been legally converted to Presidency University.so can i apply for this Inspire fellowship for my PhD course this year(2012)?
Tricky situation. May not be possible as it was still a college when you have completed your M.Sc. That may be considered as a top rank at the college level. If you get your certificate in the name of Presidency University, they may consider it. Go through the guidelines and instructions to get more insights.
