GATE is an entrance examination that facilitates Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Life Sciences, Basic Science and Biotechnology students to pursue higher courses such as M.Tech. and Ph.D in reputed IITs and other institutes / universities. Though GATE is mostly popular as an Entrance exam for M.Tech Programmes, Life sciences and Biotech candidates also can appear for this exam and pursue M.Tech. / Ph.D. in IITs, IISc and other reputed universities. GATE is also considered as an alternative to CSIR – NET for appointment as Project Assistants in CSIR laboratories.
