CBSE to conduct NET only once a year

CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has proposed that the National Eligibility Test (NET) should be conducted only once a year. At present the NET is being held in July and December every year for the grant of junior research fellowship. The CBSE will conduct the exam scheduled to be held in July 2017.

CBSE – NET is a qualifying exam for recruitment of college and university teachers. UGC has clarified that the July 2017 NET will be conducted as per the schedule. The proposal to conduct NET once in a year has come up considering the response from the candidates and resources required.

The candidates will be more serious if the exam is made once in a year. Only 17 percent of the registered candidates are taking the exam and out of them only 4 percent are clearing the NET. Hence the CBSE proposed to make it more serious.

CBSE has to issue notification for the NET exam to be held in July 2017. NET was conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) till 2014 and was handed over to the CBSE later.
