CBSE Releases New Exam Format for Classes VI to IX from 2017-18

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced new examination format for Classes VI to IX. The new exam format will be implemented in all the CBSE schools from the academic year 2017-18. The new exam format will be a part of bringing all the students under a uniform assessment process from Class VI onwards.

Schools affiliated to CBSE will have to adhere to CBSE’s template, from exams to report cards, which will now bear the logo of the central board. The change is a step towards restoration of the Class X board examinations from 2018.

The CBSE has formally implemented the continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) scheme for classes VI to IX since 2009. The Board will be replacing it with a new format- ‘uniform system of assessment, examination and report card’ – that aims at standardizing teaching and evaluation across schools.

The new format is said to be a gradual movement towards quality education through standardization of teaching, assessment, examination and report card. There has been huge growth of schools under CBSE for several decades.

With the increase in CBSE affiliated schools from 309 in 1962 to 18,688 at present, a uniform system of examination and evaluation will ease the difficulties of the students. The new report cards will be introduced from the academic year 2017-18.
