The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has approved the restoration of the board-based Class X exams from the year 2018. The first Class X examination will be conducted in March 2018.
The decision paves the way for reintroduction of the public examinations at the end of the secondary education after seven years. The new weightage division will be 80 percent to the Board-based and 20 percent will be internal assessments.
After the introduction of CCE in 2009, the CBSE has made the Class X board exam optional. In this system, the students have the option to take the school-based exam.
The present batch of Class X students of CBSE schools will continue as per the current format where both the school-based and board-based options will be open. The Board exam will be compulsory from March 2018 (From the batch 2017-18).
