UPSC Engineering Services Exam Cut Offs 2017 and Model Paper 1

UPSC conducts Engineering Services Examination (ESE) every year to fill up various vacancies in central government engineering services. The Engineering graduates or those appearing for the final year exams may appear for this recruitment exam. Following is the model paper (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude) and cut off marks of the 2017 recruitment.

Exam in 4 disciplines:

UPSC conducts ESE in four disciplines. These are Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. The cut offs for General, OBC, SC, ST, PH – 1 and Ph-3 are given separately.

Two papers:

There will be two stages in the examination. These are prelims and main examination.
Prelims: Objective type papers
Mains / Stage II: Conventional Type Papers

1000 more engineering seats in IITs from 2018

Ministry of Human Resource Development of Government of India is proposed to increase number of seats in IITs from the year 2018. About 1000 engineering seats will be added to the existing strength in IITs.

The Joint Admissions Board (JAB), which supervises admissions in IITs has confirmed that JEE Advanced 2018 would be conducted on May 20, 2018. JAB has recommended a 14 percent hike in seats allotted to women in the IITs.

At present, a total of 10998 engineering seats are available in all the IITs across India. About 400 seats were added in 2017 but 140 seats remain vacant after admission counseling.

The seats are increased in the newer IITs. Seats will also be increased at older IITs at Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Kharagpur from next year.

The final decision regarding increase of seats would be taken by JAB. The NITs are also proposed to increase women intake by 20 percent. The JAB is also considering women reservations above the existing seats.
