IGNOU M.Phil and Ph.D Admissions 2012-13

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced notification for admission into M.Phil., Ph.D. programmes through entrance examination which will be held on 29th September, 2012. Applicants should have PG in relevant disciplines with minimum 55 percent marks in aggregate. Candidates must have qualified in M.Phil. / JEST of DAE / NET / GATE with minimum 5 years of Teaching / Practical / Industry / Professional experience in related field for appearing in the entrance examination.

Admissions into Ph.D. programmes (in the following subjects) are open now: Agriculture Extension, Child Development, Nutritional Sciences, Dairy Science and Technology, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Education, Gender and Development Studies, Civil Engineering, Women’s Studies, Hindi, English, Inter-Disciplinary and Trans – disciplinary Studies, Nursing, Commerce, Physics, Management, Life Sciences, Chemistry, Geology, Geography, Bio-Chemistry, Tourism and Hospitality, Translation Studies, Distance Education and Vocational Education and Training.

Admissions into M.Phil programmes : Translation Studies and Distance Education.

Prescribed application forms can be downloaded from website : www.ignou.ac.in. Filled in application form along with all relevant documents and DD for Rs.1000 drawn in favor of IGNOU and payable at New Delhi should be sent to the Director, Research Unit at the university headquarters at Maidan Garhi. Last date for the submission of completed application form is 7th September, 2012. Venue for the examination is IGNOU Head Quarters, New Delhi.

CBI Cases on Sikkim Manipal and Punjab Technical Universities

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has starting tracing malpractices of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) and Punjab Technical University (PTU) in getting favours from former Vice Chancellor of IGNOU V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai. The CBI has charged that both the universities have benefited Rs. 1600 crore in five years by conducting distance education programmes through violating the guidelines.

The CBI has also raided the premises of Rajasekharan Pillai and found disproportionate assets in the form o fhuge investments. The CBI has been trying to trace the involvement of money in exchange of favors to Sikkim Manipal University and Punjab Technical University. The CBI has already question Pillai and top officials of both the Universities.

The CBI has found that the former VC of IGNOU, Pillai has ignored the advice of the joint committee of the AITE, IGNOU and UGC in grating permissions to the distance programmes offered by both the above universities. The investigation agency also registered cases against Pillai, Sikkim Manipal University and Punjab Technical University.

These universities presence across the country and have been offering several main stream and professional programmes. They have established study centers extensively and have been offering distance programmes. The CBI has found that these institutions have violated the norms from 2007.
