Australia Closes Ashmark, G Plus G Global and Ivy Group Universities

The Government of Australia has decided to shut down three Australian Universities on the grounds of not maintaining standards as prescribed by the authorities. It is estimated that about 400 Indian students are enrolled at the Ashmark Group college, 100 Indian students at G Plus G Global and another 30 Indian students at the Ivy Group.

Both of these institutions are vocational colleges. Australia’s vocational education regulator, the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has decided to close the colleges on the grounds of non compliance. All these colleges are located in Victoria and New South Wales.

The colleges may ask for the review of the decision taken by ASQA. This may delay or change the process of closure. The ASQA decision will come into force from October 30, 2012. The Indian High Commission in Australia is trying to provide legislated safety net to the Indian students in the respective colleges.
