Engineering: Seat Matrix and Choosing Branch

Jawahar Knowledge Centers are an innovative program initiated by Government of Andhra Pradesh to improve employability of the Engineering Graduates. These are popular as JKCs. Apart from students studying in AP Colleges, those from other states also can get transferred to colleges having JKCs. It was designed to accommodate at least five students each among male and women categories from each engineering college. In the initial stage, placements under JKC were given after the second semester of the first year. It was advanced by two months in the second batch in which 1217 candidates were given placement. It was further advanced to the third year to suit industry needs. Applications from students of other states also were received.

1. College – Seat matrix of last year allotments to Engineering Colleges: Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) will publish a booklet containing details of last ranks admitted to various engineering colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh. These statistics are very much useful for aspiring Engineers as there are more than 600 Engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh. Candidates can check chances of grabbing a seat in their favourite college and branch based on the past year ranks and seat matrix.

2. MS computers in comparison with conventional integrated engineering graduates: M.S. Computers Courses are almost equal to integrated five year programs in Engineering. There is no significant difference between MS (Software Engineering) and Five Year Integrated M. Tech courses. Students pursuing these courses in big cities are getting better placements because of their communication skills rather than their technical skills. Companies prefer students with good communication skills and grasping power rather than pure technical skills.

3. You might have doubts on choosing a suitable engineering branch if you are good at Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry or any one of these. Students good in physics only can opt for Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering. Those having good knowledge of Mathematics and Physics can go for Electronics or Electrical or Mechanical or Chemical Engineering depending up on their priorities and preferences. If you have good understanding of Chemistry, opting for Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or Pharmacy can be a right decision. Anyone with interest in technology and mathematical reasoning can pick Computer Science.

Difference between CSE and CSSE in Engineering

Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Computer Science and Systems Engineering (CSSE) are more or less similar in curriculum and content and don’t have much difference. In Andhra Pradesh, Sri Vidya Niketan Engineering College, Tirupati is the only college offering B. Tech. in CSSE. Job opportunities also will be good for this branch if the students excel in core topics of the subject.

As a whole, job scenario has been changing with respect to software industry. About 30 percent of Mechanical Engineering students are entering into software industry. There are comparatively fewer opportunities for Chemical Engineering students. Students should remember that there are plenty of opportunities for candidates with higher qualifications. Aptitude for Research and Development is essential to compete with professionals in foreign countries. You can grab higher rank jobs through pursuing M. Tech, Ph.D. and Post- Doctoral research.

Courses after Bioinformatics: There are no such courses at B.E. / B. Tech. level in Andhra Pradesh. Vellore Institute of Science and Technology (VIT) and Satyabhama Institute of Technology (Deemed University) are offering courses in Bioinformatics. Students should have good knowledge of Physics. It is very essential for protein modeling. Students also require sufficient understanding of Chemistry and Technology. Companies and Research Organisations are absorbing Bioinformatics students as they require candidates with knowledge in technology and core subjects like Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

Local – Non Local Reservations: In Engineering admissions, authorities follow Local and Non- local reservations. Non-local candidates can be allotted a maximum of 15 percent of seats. But it does not mean that 15 percent seats are reserved for them. Local students also can join in those seats on the basis of merit. Similarly, woman students have 30 percent seats in engineering admissions. But male candidates also can get the seats meant for female candidates through merit.
