Agriculture has evolved in to agribusiness and has become a vast and complex system that reaches for beyond the farm to include all those who are involved in bringing food and fiber to consumers. Agribusiness include not only those that farm the land but also the people and firms that provide the inputs (for ex. Seed, chemicals, credit etc.), process the output (for ex. Milk, grain, meat etc.), manufacture the food products (for ex. ice cream, bread, breakfast cereals etc.), and transport and sell the food products to
consumers (for ex. restaurants, supermarkets).

Scope of Agribusiness:

It was already indicated that agribusiness is a complex, system of input sector, production sector, processing manufacturing sector and transport and marketing sector. Therefore, it is directly related to industry, commence and trade, Industry is concerned with the production of commodities and materials while commerce and trade are
concerned with their distribution.

Industry:

Industry refers to the processes of extraction and production of goods meant for final consumption or use buy individual or buy another industry for its production. Thus goods used by the final or ultimate consumers are called “consumer goods” such as edible oils, fruit jams, papaya, pickles etc.

Specialized Courses in India:

In India various national level Institutes are offering specialized agribusiness courses such as IIMs, College of Agribusiness Management (CABM) of G.B. Pant University, PUMBA and others. The job prospects are quite good in this sector and large agri business companies like Monsanto, ITC have regular recruitments.

Biomedical Engineering is the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology. This field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine. It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to improve healthcare diagnosis, monitoring and therapy.

Scope and future:

The fast growing healthcare industry requires urgent attention from the engineering streams to develop new sophisticated, accurate and robust devices to fulfill the monitoring and diagnosis purposes. Supports are required from mechanical, electrical, electronics, computational and other engineering sectors. Moreover, specially trained professionals who can understand both the device system and health issues are perfect for becoming bio-medical engineer.

The scope in India is quite promising and rising every year. Jobs are available for professionals of this stream in biomedical database development, biomedical designing, biomedical photonics, biomedical software development, biomechanics, medical imaging, medical electronics and other related fields. Similar jobs are also available in all countries.

The future prospect is quite good for this discipline due to its need and efficient application in emergency. Several Institutes in India is offering courses in biomedical engineering but student should opt for those institutes which are providing excellent hands-on on various aspects of the subject as this subject is entirely application oriented where high skill and perfect training leads to the success and precision in understanding is another issue which should be acquired with sincerity as most of the medical diagnosis depends on the accuracy and precision of biomedical instrument. Few famous companies who develop biomedical equipments are as follows: Siemens, Philips, GE Healthcare, Carestream (formerly Kodak), Fuji, Konica Minolta, Cura, Agfa, Shimadzu, Erbis (Toshiba) and Allengers.

Important Note: In India corporate hospital culture is increasing day by day and people are more concerned about it for quality treatment. It is difficult to recruit one biomedical engineer to take care of bio-medical instruments like MRI. CT Scan, etc., hence a group containing like two or three can have a biomedical engineer for maintenance of above instruments and pay package is very attractive. Hence this field is another good and lucrative option.
