What after B.Tech and MS in Electronics

Mithuna from Mumbai asks… I am interested in starting a career in telecom industry. I am a Post Graduate in specializing in mobile and satellite communications from LMU, UK. My Bachelors was in electronics and telecom communications engineering.I’d like to mention that I’m an above average student with 63 – 64% in B.tech and my PG with good communication skills. I have professional academic qualifications but no hands -on industry experience. Also how is the job market for freshers in telecom? Can you please advise me how to search for a job in electronics or telecom industries? I already tried some local consultancies in Hyderabad but most of them seem to provide services for people with considerable experience. I also uploaded my CV in many job search websites with not much luck.

Also a friend has suggested to get trained in telecom protocol testing. I wanted to know if there are good career opportunities in telecom testing field keeping my profile in mind? If yes, can you also suggest any specific training institute? I’ve visited a few training institutes in Hyderabad, but couldn’t decide on one. I also wanted to know what subjects I need to master before applying for jobs?

Answer: Hello Mithuna, given your academic background, you can try for jobs in electronics and telecom industries apart from IT and software industry. There are several companies which are hiring freshers but most of them prefer Graduate freshers than Post Graduates. You need not go for any short term courses other wise it is not covered in your B.Tech and MS courses.

Start career with any size of the company irrespective the initial salary. If resources permits, you can even try to work in projects without any salary for a while and later on shift to a job after gaining some hands on experience.
