IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Hyderabad, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, India are having Bio-informatics course. Other than GATE score they have their own exams. You can try for that. Presently the job situation is not so rosy but if you are technically sound then definitely there are opportunities. But the number of positions is always limited.
