Supreme Court Quashes NEET 2013 Entrance Exam

In a major breakthrough with regard to medical education in India, the Supreme Court of India has quashed the NEET 2013 (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) examination initiated by the Government of India. The Supreme Court has set aside the NEET examination in its final judgement. NEET is aimed at providing admission into MBBS, BDS, MD /MS Courses in the medical colleges across the country.

The majority bench, comprising Chief Justice Altamas Kabir and Justice Vikramajit Sen has held that the NEET examination was beyond the purview and powers of of Medical Council of India (MCI). The course has quashed the examination saying that the MCI is not entitled to conduct the examination for Government and Private medical and dental colleges.

The State Governments can now conduct their own entrance examinations for MBBS and BDS admissions. The SC judgement has cleared the confusion among the candidates. But several candidates who secured good ranks in NEET were disappointed with the SC judgement.
