NEET Eligibility, Seats, Age Limits, Online Application and Admit Card Details

Importance of NEET Exam: NEET exam is the single most important pre-medical exam in India. All the states participating in NEET 2017 will fill 15 percent of their MBBS and BDS seats through the centralized all-India counselling and 85 percent of seats through state counselling. But the students of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telangana can appear for the exam only for the admission to the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. Other institutes and universities that screen students for their MBBS and BDS courses through the NEET 2017 include Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), and Jamia Hamdard University.

Eligibility Criteria for NEET 2017:

Indian citizens or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) are eligible to apply for the NEET 2017 exam if:

1) They have cleared or appeared for the 10+2 exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English.

2) General category students need to score at least 50 percent marks in Class 12 board exams. PH category (amongst General) students need 45% marks while SC, ST and OBC students need to score 40% marks in the qualifying exam.

3) Students need to be at least 17 years old on December 31, 2017 to be able to appear for the NEET 2017 exam. There is no upper age limit this year but students will have to fulfill the age limits specified by the institutes or universities in which they seek admission.

4) For the remaining 85 percent state-quota seats, students should have a valid domicile of the state. They should also have a residency proof of the state.

Aadhaar must:

All candidates need Aadhaar card to apply for the NEET 2017 exam. However, an exception has been made for the students of Jammu Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya.

Age requirements:

The age limit for the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) or All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) exam has been done away with on March 31, 2017. It means that students above 25 years of age can also register for the medical entrance exam from this year.

Earlier, the CBSE had declared that medical aspirants can appear for the NEET exam for a maximum of three times. However, later they clarified that NEET attempts before 2017 will not be taken into consideration in this case. NEET 2017 will be considered the first attempt for all medical aspirants appearing for the exam this year.

Apply Online:

If you want to be a doctor, 2017 is the ideal year for you to apply for the exam. NEET 2017 exam date has been announced as May 7, 2017. You need to apply online on the official NEET website, and fill in personal and academic details as instructed, and tell about the exam centre choices.

You will also need a valid email ID and password, and scanned copy of a recent photograph while applying the NEET exam too. Students can pay the NEET 2017 application fee online too – through net banking, debit card, credit card, or e-wallet. The application fee for General category or OBC category students is Rs 1,400 while the NEET application fee for SC, ST or PH students is Rs 750.

Admit Card:

Admit card for NEET 2017 will be released on April 15, 2017. Do not forget to take the printout of the confirmation page before you submit the NEET application form, and keep it safe for later use.
