MBA after B.Pharmacy – Good or Bad

Pursuing MBA would be a good choice for B.Pharma Graduates. B.Pharma students can opt for MBA in any of the functional specializations like Marketing, HRM and Finance. With a graduation in B. Pharm, you have the option of doing MBA in Pharma Management as well. MBA in Pharma management is gaining importance. Indian Pharmaceutical industry is estimated at USD 6 billion at present. It has grown at an average CAGR of 15 per cent in the last decade. It is expected to touch USD 20 billion by the year 2015. There are good number of institutes offering this sector-focused MBA. National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), SAS Nagar, Mohali is the preferred choice to pursue this course.

Other institutes offering MBA in Pharma are Nursee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai; Indian Institute of Pharmaceutical Marketing, Lucknow; Mahrshi Dayanad University, Rohtak; Poddar management & Training Institute, Jaipur, SRM University School of Management, Chennai, etc. The job opportunities after MBA Program are plenty. One can pursue career opportunities in functional areas such as production, marketing, finance, operations, human resource management, etc.

If you want to continue in Pharmaceutical industry, the career opportunities range from those in sales and marketing to high-end specialist R and D jobs. With an MBA in Pharma, you can move into managerial roles and with few years of work experience, there are chances of you to grow in the career ladder. Career opportunities in MNCs like Novartis, Astra- Zenca, Glaxo and Pfizer or Indian corporate like Dr. Reddys, Cipla, Lupin, etc. are attractive after MBA program. It also enables you to start an entrepreneurial venture in this field.
