Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi issued Admission Notification for the year 2012-13. JNU (www.jnuonline.in) is highly reputed university in the country with best faculty and infrastructure. JNU admits some students directly to Ph.D. programme on the basis of their performance in interview. There will be no entrance exam for this category admissions.
Category-C: JNU offer direct admissio to JRF holders into M.Phil and Ph.D. Programmes in all subjects of the School of Sciences.
Category-D : JNU hold separate entrance exam for Part Time admissons

The application procedure for M.Phil. Sociology is same as for other courses. You can get the application through post from JNU by sending a request letter along with DD for the cost of application and an envelope. See the post for details or you can also check JNU website.
How does one apply for the women’s studies programme in J.N.U? Is it an M. Phil or a credit course for people from different disciplines?
JNU Offer Ph.D. in Women’s studies. The university admits candidates based on written test / interview or both. A separate notification will be issued for admission to direct Ph.D. Admissions. Following is the schedule of Direct Admissions to Ph.D. in Women’s studies:
1. Issue of applications from 7th February to 21st March, 2011 for admission in Monsoon Semester

There is no direct admission provision for Computers and Systems Sciences. You may have to write written exam / viva voce or both. JNU offers Ph.D./ M.Tech. in Computer and System Sciences and Computational and Integrative Sciences.

The notification did not mention The School of Language and Literature in the JRF Category of Admissions. Hence you need to contact the concerned department directly. Generally concerned Department/ Schools will have discretion regarding procedure of admission for JRF holders.

Political Science and Geography are not available at B.A. (Hons) level at JNU, New Delhi. Only foreign languages are offered in B.A. Hons. You can pursue PG in Political Science, Geography etc.

Yes, you can apply. Candidates with PG in any allied discipline with minimum 55 percent marks can apply for M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Sociology at JNU, New Delhi. You need to apply and get a good rank in the entrance exam and have to get through the interview process if any.

You should have studied Political Science as a main subject at Graduation level and passed with minimum 45 percent marks. There will be an entrance examination as part of the admission process. This will be in objective multiple choice type questions.

You can apply for M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Educational Studies. Eligibility for these courses is Master’s degree in the subject concerned with minimum 50 percent marks or Master’s degree in allied subjects or Humanities with minimum 55 percent marks or Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with minimum 60 percent marks. Admission will be through Entrance Test and Interview. Direct admission will be there for JRF holders in the discipline of Adult Education. All the best!

You can apply and appear for entrance test. But there must be some proof of qualification at the time of admission. You can request for time if you have passed and provided proof for in that regard.

Hey Himanshu, Yes. You are eligible for CAT and UPSC Civil Services and other exams as well. Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline is the minimum eligibility for CAT and UPSC. For Civil Services, you can select Russian as one of the optional.

JNU is not offering Post Graduate programs in Public Administration and Philosophy. You can do MA in Political Science instead of Public Administration.

Yes, you can try for direct Ph.D. in Education with the support of your experience. NIEPA University is also offering Ph.D. in Education. Check it once if you are interested. NIEPA could be a better option than IGNOU as it is a specialised university for education planning and administration.

Congratulations for qualifying in UGC JRF. You can apply for winter session admissions. There will be no entrance test. You need to attend interview only. Last date for the receipt of applications for winter session admissions is 14th October 2011. Before applying, you need to confirm the availability of seats in the department of Political Science / Admissions Office. All the best!

Quiet interesting! Why do you want to change the entire discipline of studies at this stage of career? You got a full fledged professional degree with B.Tech. It does not appears to be a good decision to shift the entire career focus now. If you have interest in Political Science, you can pursue it through distance mode or you can study the subject on your own while working. We would be able to give proper suggestion if you provide the reasons for shifting the discipline.

Direct admission to Ph.D. is possible in JNU if you have qualified in UGC JRF. Otherwise, you need to take entrance test and interview route. JNU may release admission notification 2012 during December 2011. You may need to specify your areas of interest for Ph.D.

Hi Manoj, in which subject you want to do M.A. So that we can guide you better. JNU notification for 2012-13 is likely to be released during December 2011 – January 2012. There will be entrance examination for all the subjects you have mentioned (Geography, History and English).

You may need at least 55 percent marks to appear for Ph.D. Entrance Examination. Relaxation may apply if you have any reservations. You will get the seat very easily if you have UGC JRF. Check JNU website for detailed guidelines.

We don’t think it is possible for enrolling in Ph.D. in JNU without Post Graduation in the concerned subject. There may be chances if your course is equivalent to post graduation in India. Try to check with the admissions department at JNU.

JNU do not disclose cut offs for History Entrance Exam. General cut off for admission may be 40 percent for Open and OBC categories and 35 percent for SC and STs. There are several other factors like deprivation points which influence admission process. Try to do your best irrespective of eligible cut offs.

Yes, you have to appear for Entrance Test. Entrance Test will be based on syllabus of the Graduation. JNU is not offering M.Sc. Philosophy in distance mode. IGNOU might be better choice for this course (distance).

Coaching may not compulsory and also usually not available for Philosophy. Just check previous papers and get and understanding of the question paper. Most of questions will be from the syllabus of the eligible qualification. It is always good to read text books rather than bit banks.

JNU is offering UG courses in Languages only. For other subjects you may opt Delhi University which has very good colleges of UG programmes.

Your UGC-JRF should be valid for the subject / discipline you have appeared in the test. There is a direct admission provision in JNU for JRF holders. Please try to contact the department for more details and schedule of admissions. You can join through this mode. It is better if you continue with Mass Communication and Journalism. If you are interested in Sociology, you can pursue (research) Ph.D in the areas of Sociology and Mass Communication. That could be an excellent study. All the best.
