Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that has several branches like IT, Biology, chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics and Chemical Engineering. A student who is interested in bioinformatics field should have real passion for this subject. It has bright careers in the areas of drug design, searching the similarities in unknown species and also in evolutionary studies. Since India is a tropical country and several diseases are harbored here. To find out a suitable drug is a grand challenging problem. Many companies are looking for a bright bioinformatician who can take up this as a challenging career. Since drug design helps in finding the drug targets that will lead for new drug discovery. In summary bioinformatics has a bright future in the coming years.
The course is more useful to IT students, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Veterinary doctors, medical doctors, Ayurvedic doctors etc., Since IT professionals are not getting suitable placement, and bioinformatics is the better option. Many companies like Biocon, Astrageneca, Ranbaxy etc. are recruiting these professionals. Excellent education and career opportunities are there in India and abroad for this course. The kind of experience they get in IICT will be highly useful in their further career.
