How to Prepare for NEET Exam – Important Topics for Biology, Physics and Chemistry, Study Material and Tips

Preparing for NEET exam in one month is not difficult but not impossible. Here are some smart tips to help you crack the NEET or AIPMT exam in just one month. The topics include study material for various subjects, important topics from Botany, Zoology (Biology), Physics and Chemistry.

NEET Study Material:

Since you have less time on hand, stick to NCERT books. You can use other books only as reference wherever needed. You may also solve the MCQs in other NEET preparation books or available on Internet sources for more practice.

Due to shortage of time, prepare the important topics first and then, complete the rest of the syllabus for each subject.

NEET 2017 Study Plan for the late starters:

Week 1 : Study Physics
Week 2 : Study Biology
Week 3 : Study Chemistry
Week 4 : Study Revision, Practice through Previous Years’ AIPMT or NEET Papers, and Online Mock Test Series

Important Topics for Physics:

Prepare for the Physics topics in the following order:

Mechanical Properties
Current Electricity
Dual Nature of Matter & Radiation
Magnetism & Moving Charges
Thermodynamics
Rigid Body Dynamics
Work, Energy and Power
Planar Motion
Ray Optics
Wave Optics
Kinetic theory & Thermal properties of matter
Atomic Study
Oscillation
Gravitation

Practice Laws of Motion, Alternating Current, and Work, Energy and Power as much as you can. Experts suggest that Physics section in NEET is mostly application based. So, you should memorise the formulae and then understand their applications to various situations.

Solve all the numerical problems of NCERT books and use them to prepare the conceptual part too. Also, solve Physics MCQs from good-quality competition books too.

Important Topics for Biology (Botany + Zoology):

Prepare for the Botany or Zoology topics in the following order:

Reproduction
Biological Classification
Principles of Inheritance and Variation
Morphology of Flowering Plants
Cell: The Unit of Life
Animal Kingdom
Ecosystems
Molecular Basis of Inheritance
Human Health and Diseases
Body Fluids and Circulation Biological Classification seems to be the favourite topic of NEET question paper designers.

Historically speaking, 90 percent of the questions asked in the NEET exam are picked from NCERT books when it comes to Biology section. Study all the diagrams and concepts carefully.

Important Topics for Chemistry:

Prepare for Chemistry topics in the following order:

Basic Concepts
P-Block Elements
Equilibrium
Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids
Chemical Bonding
Coordination Compounds
Alkanes, Alkenes and Alkynes
Thermodynamics and Thermochemistry
Haloalkanes and Haloarenes
The d and f Block Elements
Solutions
The Solid State
Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers

In Chemistry, s-block, p-block, d-block, and f-block elements should be thoroughly prepared along with special reactions in Organic Chemistry.

NEET questions related to Inorganic Chemistry are mostly fact-based and are picked directly from NCERT books.

On the other hand, in Organic and Physical Chemistry, questions asked in the NEET are both conceptual and application-based in nature. To prepare for them, you will need to refer both to NCERT books and good-quality competition books.

In the last week, solve at least ten previous years’ NEET and AIPMT question papers. This should help you become familiar with the NEET question pattern, difficulty levels of questions asked in the exam, and gauge your understanding of the NEET syllabus you have covered.

Always remember these points:

1. NEET 2017 exam has negative marking. So, if you do not know an answer, leave it altogether. Do not go for guesswork as you may end up losing marks for a wrong answer.

2. It is very important to take care of your health during NEET preparation time. Avoid junk food and try to catch at least six hours of sleep. 15 minutes of walk or meditation or a round of badminton from time-to-time can help in concentrating better and be more alert.

3. Switch off your mobile phone and laptop. This is the time to keep your hands off social media, and invest that time in your NEET preparation.

4. Keep motivating yourself. Think positively and believe in yourself.
