No MP Quota Seats in KV Schools from 2022-23 – Latest KVS Guidelines

The MP quota for admissions to Kendriya Vidyalayas was abolished on the recommendation of the Parliament. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan (KVS) directed all schools not to admit students on the basis of letters from MPs from the academic year 2022-23. The KVS began its MP recommendation process in 1975. At that time, each MP had the opportunity to recommend two children. The recommendation was first rescinded in 1997 and allowed again within a year. The same was cancelled for a second time in 2010 and reopened in 2012.

Since 2012, each MP has been given the opportunity to make a recommendation of six. From 2016, it has been increased to 10. This has led to an increase in the number of students in the KVs. There have been allegations that it is affecting the ratio of teachers to students. Also, there are allegations that MPs are recommending seats only for the children of their party activists and followers. In this context, it seems that KVS has canceled the quota of MPs.

Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam have 70 KVs and 1.14 lakh students. Meanwhile, MP Nama Nageswara Rao on Wednesday said that the quota of MPs in KVS has been cancelled and no more recommendations can be made for admissions.

However, the Delhi High Court has said that it will not interfere with the provision that children must be at least six years of age to apply for admission in one of the classes in KVs. A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Naveen Chawla has rejected an appeal by a five-year-old UKG student to the Supreme Court to admit children under the age of six.
